Milk is one of the most important and most complete foods in children’s nutrition.

From the age of two, children should consume about half a litre of milk or dairy products a day.

A word from an expert

Cow’s milk and dairy products are, for the vast majority of children, safe and healthy food! Milk and dairy products are an excellent source of calcium, which is one of the most important minerals for a child’s growth and development – explains our renowned expert, paediatrician Tatjana Vukomanović and adds:

It would be best if the baby’s first contact with cow’s milk was yoghurt! Fermented dairy products, such as yoghurt, contain beneficial probiotic bacteria that are extremely important for children’s health (this certainly applies to adults as well). They help digestion, but also help a child build a healthy immune system. Everything that applies to yoghurt also applies to curdled milk! Cheese spreads should also be included in children’s diet. It is necessary to take care that it is free of additives, preservatives and artificial flavours – so Sirko and A la Kajmak are an excellent choice. These products are made from the highest quality local milk, by a modern technological process.

VITAMINS

Milk is rich in B vitamins, and B12 is especially important, as it helps create red blood cells. Vitamin A is responsible for good eyesight and healthy skin, and vitamin D strengthens immunity and fights viruses.

MINERALS

Milk and dairy products are the richest sources of an important mineral – calcium. In our body, as much as 99% of calcium is stored in bones and teeth.

PROTEINS

One of the main nutrients that make milk extremely important for health is protein. Milk contains two types of protein – casein and whey protein. Casein is a protein that dominates in milk, about 80% of the total protein in milk is from this group. Whey protein makes up 20% of the total value of protein in milk. This protein greatly contributes to the growth and maintenance of muscle mass.

Lactose is a natural, integral part of milk, so it is found in almost all dairy products, including cheese and cheese spreads. Lactose can also be called milk sugar.
